BetOnline Review

By John Mayer

Originally based in Costa Rica, this sports betting site debuted in 2001 under the name BestLineSports. They relocated to Panama in 2004, and two years later had purchased BetOnline Sportsbook and took over operation of their website.

This last event marked a period of massive growth for the organization, as they began to develop a reputation for superior customer service and high wager limits. This expansion has continued into the present, marking them as one of the top options for sports bettors.

If you've been sitting the fence about whether or not to sign up with BetOnline, it's my hope that this article can help make up your mind. At the very least, you'll come away with a greater understanding of what their service has to offer.

Selection of Sporting Events

BetOnline doesn't offer as many sports as Bet365, but they still have more than enough choices to satisfy most bettors. Eighteen individual sports are listed, and these range from baseball and soccer to softball and mixed martial arts.

Futures and prop bets are listed in their own section. These include non-sports options such as politics and entertainment, in addition to more conventional choices such as NHL futures and NFL game props.

Maximum Bets

A lot of sites fall short when it comes to maximum wagers, but BetOnline isn't one of them. They have some of the highest limits in the industry, and this is perhaps their greatest selling point if you happen to be a high roller.

You can bet sides on NFL games for up to $25,000, while gridiron contests at the college level are capped at $15,000. MLB has a limit of $10,000 for moneyline wagers, while the NHL has an upward limit of $3,000 for point spreads, moneylines, and totals.

These totals differ, so you'll need to check with BetOnline to see the limits for your favorite sport. For those on a budget, please keep in mind that wagers can also be made for as little as $1 online or $25 over the phone.

Methods of Deposit & Withdrawal

For deposits, BetOnline offers a dozen options to customers, including major credit cards, e-wallet services, cashier's checks, and even Bitcoin. Most deposit minimums range from $10 to $25, although bank wires and cashier's checks are significantly higher ($1,000 and $1,500, respectively).

For withdrawals, customers can choose from Bitcoin, Western Union, Moneygram, wire transfer, and cashier's check. Minimum withdrawals start at $100, with wire transfers being the highest at $2,500. Most cap out in the $1,000 to $2,000 range, although withdrawals via wire transfer can go all the way up to $24,900.

Other Options for Gamblers

If you ever grow tired of sportsbetting or just want to diversify, BetOnline offers a couple of other betting options. The first is a virtual poker room with on-the-hour freerolls and all your favorite card games. The second is a casino, complete with three-dimensional slots, video poker, table games, and a live dealer option.

Customer Service

Customer service representatives are available to assist you in English or Spanish, and they can be reached 24/7 via phone, email, or live chat. BetOnline stands out by regularly providing training and oversight of their employees, which is meant to make the customer experience as pleasant as possible.

While the BetOnline Sportsbook falls short of the insane options offered by Bet365, it still manages to provide customers with a solid gambling experience. The customer service is especially notable, which shouldn't come as a surprise when you consider that employees are regularly trained in the proper methods of assisting clients.

Customers are also able to transcend the world of PC betting by placing wagers via cell phone or other mobile devices. This includes more traditional bets such as point spreads and totals, but it also extends to newer options like in-play betting.

If you're a smart bettor, you already know that the best tactic is to sign up with multiple sportsbooks and then search for the most advantageous lines each week. When you're deciding on a series of virtual books, BetOnline should certainly make the cut.

Vindicated: Big Names, Big Liars, and the Battle to Save Baseball

In 2005, Jose Canseco blew the lid off Major League Baseball's steroid scandal -- and no one believed him. His New York Times bestselling memoir Juiced met a firestorm of criticism and outrage from the media, coaches, clubs, and players, many of whom Canseco had personally introduced to steroids -- with a needle in the ass. Baseball's former golden boy, Rookie of the Year, onetime Most Valuable Player, and owner of two World Series rings was called a liar. Now, steroids are back in the headlines... More »
